#NilDiyaPokuna – is a natural underground pond located near Ella, Sri Lanka.

The name translates to “Blue Water Pond” in Sinhalese, and it gets its name from the distinct blue hue of the water. The pond is found deep within a cave system, approximately 800 meters underground in the Karandagolla region, making it both a natural and mystical wonder.

The first person to dive into the cave was Dharshan Jayewardene. He created a map of the underwater part of the cave from 2017-2021. Dharshana states that it’s an amazing place and so far the only underwater cave system in Sri Lanka. That “underwater it is a massive space spanning hundreds of square meters and at its deepest point, 30m (100ft) deep, and during rainy season when the water levels rise the water temperature is 23C. There is no visible living beings in the water.”
